With a focus on finding a location that United Bay Community Credit Union could truly integrate with their community and, themselves, become a community member, their new branch opening in Coleman, MI is the perfect placement and match. With their commitment to bringing in jobs through their new branch opening, they also partner with local organizations to help fund their mission in the community.
UBCCU formed out of the 1949 Chevrolet Employees Federal Credit Union for local plant workers who were in need of local lending services. As the credit union grew, their name changed and they began to expand their reach to other Michigan communities.
Serenus Johnson and United Bay Community Credit Union have been partners in business for many years. We are privileged to service all of their branches and to be their “on call” maintenance and construction team. We truly value the partnership we have with the UBCCU Team and are proud of this newest renovation we have completed, together.

President and CEO Diane Abbonizio approached Serenus Johnson with the exciting news of expanding and location scouting. After the Coleman branch was secured, design efforts began right away.
The design and budgeting stage of the project began in January, followed by a fast-paced construction project that began demolition May 1, 2022 and was complete in October 2022. The project even ran into site drainage issues at the front of building. Coleman DPW assisted in finding a solution promptly and allowed us to return our focus back to the main project. We are thankful for their assistance and cooperation with this project.
Photos below are from before the renovation began. Outdated layout, flooring, unused space, a dilapidated parking lot, unkempt landscaping, mechanical and electrical needs were evident.
New Branch Opening in Coleman, MI
We had the privilege to provide design projections to Diane and her team for potential layouts and construction changes needed to complete before their new branch opening. Our renderings allow our clients to truly see what the final product will be and get a concrete vision on the end product they will receive, which is helpful for many clients who are not familiar with blueprint reading and are visual learners!
With great thanks to our contracting team (below), we were able to complete this beautiful renovation on time and under budget. Their grand opening took place on Tuesday, October 4 and was warmly welcomed by members of the Midland Chamber of Commerce, City of Coleman, local patrons, local businesses and many excited employees. We wish the UBCCU Team the best of luck in their new location and look forward to the next renovation in their banking family.
