Congratulations to Rescue Ministries of Mid Michigan on their newest project, “The Doud House.” This project has been very exciting to be a part of and we are thrilled to see them open. As the general contractor on the job, we also want to extend our gratitude to the Good Samaritan team for going above and beyond to express their thanks and excitement to the contractor team.

Serenus Johnson Construction partnered with Good Samaritan Rescue Mission of Bay City on the renovation of, what is now known as, “The Doud House.”

The Doud House was developed after the need for licensed transitional housing for youth ages 16-17 began to rise in the Bay area. The Doud House helps youth ages 16-17 to prepare for adulthood and offers up to 18 months of shelter, meals, mentoring case management and vocational goal support. The Doud House is is licensed and staffed 24 hours a day.

The home’s name is dedicated to the memory of Rick Doud who was the Administrator for Samaritan Youth Services when the doors opened. Unfortunately, Rick passed away unexpectedly in the fall. Rick was a pivotal piece in helping Rescue Ministries CEO Dan Streeter start the much-needed service to youth.

Doud House is part of Good Samaritan’s “Samaritan Youth Services”, which also includes the Samaritan Youth Shelter and Labadie Lofts. The Samaritan Youth Shelter offers emergency shelter for up to 21 days to homeless youth ages 12 to 17. Labadie Lofts is a 10-unit, single-occupancy apartment complex for young adults who are pursuing full-time education or vocational training, and have experienced homelessness or are aging out of foster care.

Serenus Johnson Construction performed the installation of a new ADA exterior ramp, installation of new LVP flooring, renovation of existing bathroom to meet ADA standards, new ADA shower, new painting throughout, new ADA access to sleeping areas and revised kitchen layout including new cabinets and solid surface countertops. Additional scopes of work included revised electrical featuring new lighting throughout, new plumbing fixtures in revised bathroom, new sink in kitchen, and updated HVAC ductwork to accommodate new room layouts. The project was completed in approximately 3 months.
